The ARTEMIS Magazine emphasizes on the valuable chance of presenting the SMARCOS results to an international audience of colleagues working in the same field as well as the importance of getting critical feedback on the presented ideas and to network with people who share similar interests.
The use of SOFIA platform in SMARCOS, also highlighted within the article, to create a knowledge model that is shared by all of the devices applied in office workers and diabetes patients’ daily life (from laptops, mobile phones to pills dispensers, activity monitors or televisions). Knowledge Processors (KPs) are used to make possible the knowledge sharing, even though the data format of every device may be different.

SMARCOS Complex Systems Control Demos
Publication date 2011/03/30
Smarcos is putting a great effort to develop tools facilitating control of complex systems and perform their validation with end-users. A number of different but complementary HCI application domains are set up within the complex systems control sector:
  • Monitoring and control Domain – Barco features through this domain the possibility to have multiple users interacting with the same interface from different devices, (e.g. several operators in a Control Room looking at the display wall).
  • Physically disabled people Domain – Intecs is working towards creating a system for mobile phones that should allow Visual Impaired people to use their devices, interact with wireless services and extract useful information from items through QR codes printed on them.
  • Aviation Domain - This domain, explored by Honeywell, is concerned with a large set of different user interfaces for pilot assistance systems. The first version of the GUI for main anchor of the Electronic Flight Bag (EFB), describes in detail the three main areas (System, application and function menus) and the elements composing each one.
  • Vehicles´ Domain - INDRA searches the challenges associated to P2P communication to permit real-time exchange of information between mobile telephones embedded in moving vehicles, allowing the early detection of events without needing to synchronize information with remote servers.

In order to support this work a set of demos has been produced to demonstrate the HCI application domains, some of them are now available through the following links:
